Beddington House

This project transforms a once-neglected house into an elegant and expansive family home. Positioned opposite Beddington Park with views over the River Wandle, the property has been sensitively extended by 80% to create a residence of refined sophistication. The highlight is the ground floor — anchored by a generous kitchen and dining space that opens to the rear garden, and a dramatic, south-facing double-height volume that floods the interior with natural light, bringing a sense of openness and vitality throughout the home.

Inspired by the owner’s travels through Austria and Germany, the home embraces a contemporary design language of restraint and precision. Minimal color, clean detailing, and crisp lines set the tone for a refined interior. Central to the design is the use of natural daylight: large openings are placed to illuminate spaces, cast dramatic shadows, and establish visual connections with layered perspectives.

With a façade of crisp white render, precise lines, charcoal detailing, and dark roof slates, the house confidently reflects the modernist traditions of Bauhaus design that inspired the owners. While respecting the scale and form of its neighboring properties, the home embraces its individuality, asserting a contemporary identity. Fully realised as a modern residence, it integrates sustainable technologies, including air-source heat pumps, grey water harvesting, EV charging point, and solar thermal water heating, combining aesthetic sophistication with environmental performance and comfort.
